The Conocybe apala has a very thin cone shaped cap, with very thin stem. It’s a very brittle mushroom. It’s very easy to break one of these when picking it. The cap is white to tan, or light brown. The stem is white, bruising brownish when handled. The spore print is purple brown. The cap is very conical in shape for the entire life of the mushroom. Once you get used to the shape, these are very easy to spot. It seems almost impossible for the extremely thin stem to hold up the larger cone shaped cap.
