These aptly named fungi are typically club shaped and stick out of the ground near dead wood in small clusters, and often times resemble… you guessed it. A dead persons fingers. They tend to grow in late spring/early summer. But, they don’t always have the typical club shape, they can be thin and fan shaped, or short and stocky. The key identifying feature is the greenish body, with the white tip. However, as they age, they become black and covered with small bumps giving them an almost burnt appearance.
